Cancer has affected my family in a great deal. Especially on my mother’s side. Mom has a large family, being the 7th child out of 12. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 43, her younger sister was diagnosed at age 37. Another aunt, age 63, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer this past February. My grandpa (maternal side as well) passed away of Pancreatic cancer in 2004.
These experiences and knowledge definitely changed the family dynamic. Having this familial history of cancer is in no doubt terrifying. I have three sisters and a brother. The chances of one of us developing cancer is frightening, but we remain strong, smart, and resilient.
